    "Preparing Youth for Success"
        in the Global Marketplace

          Granville Academy North Carolina

Granville Academy North Carolina is a free, after school coaching and counseling program designed to give inner-city youth an introduction to business and industry, and an understanding of the language, foundation and environment of the free enterprise system. The Academy provides students in grades eight through twelve with the skills and tools that are fundamental in business, finance, science and engineering.

Granville Academy North Carolina is presently located in Kinston, North Carolina and our program is an affiliate of Granville Academy National which was founded by William Granville Jr. in 1983 in Trenton, New Jersey. William "Bill" Granville is an entrepreneur and a former executive with the Mobil Corporation.

Bill Granville grew up in urban Trenton, New Jersey and as a teenager in high school, he was the leader of a street gang. Fortunately, one of his teachers saw his potential and persuaded him to change his direction in life. Bill never forgot the confidence that this teacher gave him. His way of repaying the support and time that the teacher invested in him is to teach and train inner city youth the dynamics of business and entrepreneurship.

What Bill Granville started in Trenton, NJ in 1983, as a free after school program teaching business to youth has blossomed into the Granville Academy National. Granville Academy has been preparing youth for economic empowerment for over 24 years through its ongoing curriculum in the fundamentals of business, finance, technology, entrepreneurship, character building and community service.

The Granville Academy National program includes after school programs in several cities, including Bowie, Maryland; Cleveland, Ohio; Trenton, New Jersey; Plainfield, New Jersey; New Haven and Waterbury, Connecticut; Goldsboro and Kinston, North Carolina; and Northern Virginia. Each program or affiliate operates independently with support from the national office. The national office provides central administration for the affiliates, training, curriculum development, program evaluation, and coordinates national events. In addition, the national office facilitates communication with local affiliates, develops educational standards, and performs various public relations and community outreach.

Granville Academy North Carolina was established in 1998 and one of our primary goals is to create a cluster of affiliates in the state of North Carolina, with a particular interest in the Charlotte, Triad, Wilmington, and Research Triangle Park areas of the state.
